The last period gave time to think about the past half year, the goals I've set beforehand and what happened.
I had one big fear in coming to Italy: returning twice as big.
As we all know, the Italian kitchen is delicious and I was afraid of enjoying it too much. For this reason I stayed alert to what I was eating, how many times I was eating out and... I started running.
No I didn't succeed in running every day, but I did succeed in not gaining wait!
Which is kind of special, as I hear from all the others who're here for a longer period, I might be the only person who turns home with the same, or maybe even less weight!
Second, I came here to learn Italian. I think I succeeded in this. I don't speak the best of Italian, especially in 'verbi refflessivi' en 'pronomi (in)diretti' I still make lots of mistakes... But... I have a good base now and can definitely hold up a conversation! Now matter what anyone else sais, I'm happy with the progress I've made!
Third, I wanted to learn some Italian cooking. And I don't mean, buy a jar of Bertoli Pesto Genovese, mix it with cheap over-boiled pasta, because I already know that. No, I wanted to learn cooking Italian from a real Italian woman, sorry if I'm being bias but most of the Italian man don't cook or use the first Bertoli-over-boiled variant.
I must say, I've learned a delicious dolce and Tiramisu in Torino, but 'till one month ago I was beginning to think I'd have to let go of this goal. But to my great joy La Mama in Polcenigo could teach me how to make gnocchi, a new friend taught me a delicious recipe for salsa pomodori and my sweat neighbor taught me how to make ragu from scratch, and also how to make fresh pasta and pizza.
All in all I think also this goal may be viewed as successful.
