Weeks have past since my last update so it's time for me to sit down and write something. But other then usual, I find it hard to find the right (right for me) topic to write about.
I will tell you about something that had me wondering since I arrived here and that's measurements. No, don't worry it's not going to be a very mathematical story!
When you walk down the street, any street except for the large shopping-avenue you'll be amazed about all the shops, the look so little, but have so much! Sometimes it makes me wonder if magic does exist and they used and enlargement spell to fit everything inside.
But then there's an even bigger surprise in store for you... Everywhere you see huge doors, with a little door in them. They remembers you easily about the time when people used a horse and carriage. Then you look at the building of the house, but it's nothing special compared to the other houses surrounding it. Often there's even a shop, or another door directly next to the huge arc. While I would expect at least a house the size of small mansion to accommodate the horse and carriage. But then... A car drives up the street, and magically (technology can be like magic, right?) the doors slowly open inwards and display an inner court the size of half a soccer-field More often then not it's beautified with plants, trees, flowers, statues and sometimes even a fountain. I've caught myself more than once standing in the middle of this drive in marveling at all this hidden splendor. Such a long world away from Holland where we try to make our front yard as beautiful as possible, for all the world to see. It's the secret of the Italians. Their own secret garden.
So if ever you're in Italy, especially in a bigger city like Milano, that seems only economical and cold, try to get a look beyond the doors... You will not be disappointed!
